Mission Statement
The mission of Sumiton Middle School Athletics is to develop student-athletes who demonstrate character, discipline, teamwork, and pride in their school and community. Through competition, our athletes learn the value of hard work, perseverance, and accountability. Our goal is to prepare students not only for success in high school athletics, but also to become responsible young men and women who lead with integrity in the classroom, on the field, and in their community.
Philosophy
At Sumiton Middle School, we believe athletics are an extension of the classroom. Sports provide students with valuable opportunities to develop leadership skills, self-discipline, and respect for others.
Our program emphasizes:
• Effort – Giving your best in practice, competition, and the classroom
• Teamwork – Putting the success of the team ahead of individual recognition
• Accountability – Taking responsibility for actions and performance
• Sportsmanship – Competing with respect for opponents, officials, and teammates

Winning is important, but the true success of our program is measured by the growth and development of our student-athletes.
Student-Athlete Expectations
Student-athletes at Sumiton Middle School are expected to represent their school with pride both on and off the field. Participation in athletics is a privilege that carries responsibility.
Student-athletes are expected to:
• Maintain strong academic performance in the classroom
• Show respect to coaches, teachers, teammates, and officials
• Demonstrate good sportsmanship in victory and defeat
• Attend practices and games prepared and on time
• Display positive behavior at school and in the community
• Support and encourage their teammates
Our athletes are leaders in the school, and their actions should reflect the values of Sumiton Middle School.
Coach Expectations
Coaches at Sumiton Middle School play an important role in shaping the lives of young athletes. Coaches are expected to serve as positive role models who prioritize the development and well-being of their players.
Coaches are expected to:
• Teach the fundamentals and skills of their sport
• Promote character, teamwork, and leadership
• Maintain a safe and positive environment for all athletes
• Communicate clearly with players and parents
• Encourage academic success and personal growth
• Represent Sumiton Middle School with professionalism and integrity
